Choosing Flowers Based on Your Wedding Colors
Early in 2021, R+M decided to postpone their large wedding due to COVID-19, but still wanted to honor their original April wedding date with an intimate elopement surrounded by close friends in Central Park — a beautiful time to get married with all of the park’s 840+ acres in peak bloom.
The bride reached out to Lisa Lee Florals because she liked our sculptural, textural arrangements and bouquets. She shared she was going to wear a traditional Chinese qipao dress in a romantic, burgundy color and relied on us to recommend color options for her bouquet. As with every event and wedding, we considered:
What flowers will be in season?
Which blooms allow us to stay in budget?
Of these flowers & greenery, which complement the overall color palette, and in this case, the bride’s burgundy dress?
Playing on burgundy, which is a mix of red and purple, (versus maroon that’s a mix of red and brown), we chose to use light purple of delicate sweet peas and complemented the red tones of the qipao dress with shimmery golden hues found in dainty butterfly ranunculus along with golden mustard roses. We finally accented the bouquet with little bits of baby blue tweedia — for that something blue, of course, and these hints of blue married well as complements of the golden butterfly ranunculus.
